journal entry week ending nov 9

this week i discovered kidspiration and inspiration. they are programs in our school lab computers. they seem to be quite helpful in the education setting. kidspiration in particular was a lot of fun. it was geared toward the elementary school student. kind of like assignments, but not paper, on a computer. like you could open up a science paper, do the fun experiment, explain your results and print it all out to hand in to the teacher. it had this for all kinds of subjects in elementary school. i kinda liked it. the only thing i missed was a free for all paint portion. express your artistic side, or a free for all writing portion. but i guess there are seperate programs for this.

when i went into inspiration, i was a bit overwhelmed at first. it seemed not as fun, or easy to use. as i kept trying, i realized it was geared more for the teacher, or adult, no actually to the teacher. this is becuase it is so easy to develope a lesson plan. it opens up an outline for you, you can just input your thoughts and ideas in the space. like a free for all puzzle, thats applicable in real life. in fact, its so applicable, i may just even use it for an assignment i have in another class. it does take a bit more brains than kidspiration, as in its not as user friendly, but it sure seems more useful to me.

kidspiration was more fun and i spent more time on it, but inspiration seems to be a bit more valuable.

weekly journal entry #1

This is my first entry for my computer class and on my blogger page. when i heard all the accounts I had to open up when i started this course, i thought, "oh great, a computer class on pop culture." what i was trying to stay away from i was now getting graded on. so i did it, opened up my accounts, went to class, took notes and kinda just grinned and bore it.

as I'm learning more, and getting more involved in these accounts, I'm realizing, that these things are popular for reasons beyond "the next big fad." they are actually quite useful. take Gmail, for instance. all those tools and links to genuinely useful sites, not just "I'm bored so entertain me" type sites, but sites with real info and application to them. and then there is Gmail itself. its not just another free email account (which are a dime a dozen). it truly is unique. i wish i knew more to go into detail about it but in the coming weeks i will. this is just the beginning of my discovery of new communication outlets.
